In Year 5 when we start to develop a wide range of skills that aim to help the children gain confidence ready to face the challenges of Year Six. The work is challenging but is also a lot of fun and the aim is really extend each child.

Every member of the class is encouraged to take ownership of their own work and they have the opportunity to explore, analyse and evaluate each end product. All children will have plenty of opportunities to improve their ability to work as a team in both small and large groups.

Over the year, along with numeracy and literacy, we get the chance to study science, looking at Space; we will also be looking at World War Two and be venturing into the business world when we look at mini-enterprise!

Alongside this the children also follow the core learning skills curriculum which enables them to develop their ability to learn more effectively.

Where it is appropriate for the lesson, IT is used and the children are given the opportunity to use film, recording and photography to enhance their work. We follow an integrated curriculum and each subject is planned to make sure all the children will find it stimulating and enjoyable, this results in high levels of achievement.

Year Five is a year of high expectation, but by thinking of all the children’s needs and their interests it is also an enjoyable and rewarding year.
