In Year One we work hard to build on  the learning foundations laid down in Reception. We are lucky to be able to learn in a large classroom where there is plenty of room to explore.

Throughout the year we learn about many exciting themes. "party Planners", "Castles","Mrs Armitages Vehicle" "All Creatures Great And Small", and "The Seaside". In each of these themes we try to make the learning as lively as possible through trips, visitors, role play and other experiental activities.

We also concentrate hard on improving reading, writing and mathematical skills.

These areas are taught each day in a carefully planned and systematic way.

Importantly, we aim to make the children more independent and responsible for their own learning. Changing for P.E.,choosing library book, tidying up,finding resources, logging onto computers and tying shoelases are all important milestones we actively encourage. Luckily we are supported in this aim by a very dedicated team of teaching assistants.

Overall we strive to make Year One a place where the learning is always challenging but fun!
